Properties
(No User Tips)
Pointed cabbage is related to white cabbage.
It is fast growing and produces a high yield and its taste is milder than white cabbage.
Habitat
(No User Tips)
It needs a sunny location with loose, good garden soil. It is possible to grow this in batches at intervals of time.
Propagation
(No User Tips)
Propagate via seeds. Leave single cabbage plants in the bed when harvesting and allow them to flower.

Winter Protection
(No User Tips)
The varieties of pointed cabbage which can be grown all year around (e.g. Duncan) should be protected with a fleece when heavy frosts threaten.
Cultivation
(No User Tips)
- Water regularly. Irregular watering will cause the heads to burst.
- Hoe regularly.
Tip:
Put black strips of plastic between the rows of seeds in the vegetable bed. This both warms the soil and prevents weeds from growing.
Slugs like to sneak under this sheeting and they are they are then easy to remove.
Deseases / pests
(No User Tips)
Pests: aphids, flea beetles, snails, cabbage white butterfly caterpillars
Preventative measures: Cover the
bed with a snail fence.
Diseases: Clubroot
Control: Destroy affected plants, don't compost them.
Preventative measures: Rotate crops correctly: For 7 years, do not grow any plants from the cabbage family in the same bed.
Harvest
(No User Tips)
Pointed cabbage is available almost all year around, from late spring to the start of winter.
The spring and early summer varieties can be harvested from early summer (in central Europe that means June). Winter-hardy varieties of pointed cabbage can be harvested from mid to late spring.
It is ideal when pointed cabbage
can be harvested with a weight of 1.5 kg. If the heads grow too
large they burst easily.
Tip:
Cabbage can be harvested several times.
If you leave a 1 to 2 cm high stump with leaves when you cut a head off, pointed cabbage will sprout again, like all types of cabbage.
There will then be a lot of somewhat smaller heads.
Storage
(No User Tips)
Pointed cabbage does not keep particularly well. In the fridge, pointed cabbage will keep for a few days.
Preparation
(No User Tips)
Pointed cabbage is suitable for cooking and also for salads.
